2/21 Fundraising Report

For Immediate Release

WMBA of COS and Sunna Racing Team

Report of Inaugural Fundraising Event on Feb 21, 2009

Greetings Friends!

We are happy to report that the inaugural fundraising event for the WMBA of COS and Sunna Racing Team exceeded everyone's expectations and was an overwhelming success!  With your outstanding help, the fundraising event generated $3000 in donations!  These funds will be used to establish membership benefits for the growing number of Colorado Springs women who are eager to join WMBA of COS and Sunna Racing.  This is the first step in fulfilling our mission statement:

Our Mission:

To encourage women of all levels of skill and interest in cycling through making the sport and cycling community in Colorado Springs more accessible and visible.

We aim to encourage participation in race events through a developmental

team, organize group and training rides, educate women through skill and bike maintenance clinics, and organize social events to promote community.

While we are a committed group of female racers and skilled riders, membership includes female cyclists interested in completing their first race or group ride.

We would like offer a special thanks to our sponsors, Trinity Brewing Company, SRAM, Criterium Bicycle Shop, and Action Potential for providing the backing for this event.  Keep reading and see how our community came together with support.

Trinity's own beer gurus Todd Walton and Jason Yester, agreed to let WMBA of COS & Sunna Racing Team host the fundraising event at the brewery.  In addition, Trinity showed their commitment to our mission by donating the full $5 sale price for every glass of Sunna Wit beer and Stone Brewing's Ruination Ale sold.  Trinity's faith in our effort was rewarded with a crowd of supporters so huge it completely filled the brewery.  Supporters that mingled in the brewery were treated to live and original music from the Charlie Milo Trio, a jazz/funk style band.  Thanks to everyone at Trinity for opening your 'home' to us!

Our sponsors from SRAM generously donated the main prize drawing item, a RockShox 2009 World Cup SID suspension fork.  This item was won by Rob Garcia in a prize drawing 'auction' with a donation of $540!  Congratulations R.G.!   SRAM also provided lots of schwag for an exciting prize toss that generated cheers from the crowd.  We recognized plenty of familiar faces from the SRAM family; thanks for coming out and supporting our inaugural event!

We would also like to acknowledge that over 30 local businesses from Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs donated items and services as prizes for the fundraiser drawing.  People were encouraged to enter the prize drawing and received a WMBA of COS sticker as a show of their support.  The proceeds generated from the sale of Trinity's two beers on tap, SRAM's prize, and sticker donations go directly to support the WMBA of COS and Sunna Racing Team.

Finally, the WMBA of COS and Sunna Racing are to pleased report that we were able to use this fundraising event as a means to raise awareness for the cause World Bicycle Relief.  We had Chad Benken on hand to spread the word about “The Power of Bicycles®”.  Chad handed out WBR information pamphlets, stickers, and showed a WBR film from a projector he brought to the event.  He answered questions and educated people on how the efforts of WBR are empowering people in impoverished nations through transportation by bicycle.

Thanks to everyone for reading and being a part of our success!
